Gratitude Mountain Test
This past weekend, a number of LifeSpring families were at Blue Mountain for the Spartan Event Weekend. Spartan races are obstacle course events that combine trail running with physical challenges like wall climbs and carries. Because this Spartan event was held at Blue Mountain, half of it involved hiking up the mountain. The way the course was laid out for the five kilometer “sprint” (I don’t know who would sprint that), was that the track would keep going partially up…
Heart Check
Recently, during the weekly Bible study I attend, one of the leaders said this, “A person pursues what their heart is set upon. If their heart is set upon the world—they will pursue the world. If their heart is set on God—they will pursue God.” And as I was hearing this, I felt convicted to ask, “Am I pursuing God?” I realized that I wasn’t. I wasn’t walking away from God, but some time had passed since I was actively…
The Old and the New
It’s so cool to see the next generation of our youth start to join Wildfire. As they begin to learn and grow in their faith, they are given opportunities to stretch themselves and serve alongside others. Last Sunday, there was a Kingdom Kids shepherds meeting after service to gather, pray, and encourage one another. Six of our Wildfires joined us and at the end of the meeting, we did a listening prayer exercise together. As the shepherds and Wildfires grouped…
Increase Our Capacity
A lot of times in our faith, we ask God for more; more presence, more favor, more funds. We might be feeling impatient because what we have been praying for has not been given. What we might have is the faith to ask for more, but not the capacity we need to receive or sustain it. I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. But I will not drive…
Increase Our Faith: Worship and Spiritual Warfare
Often when we think of worship, we think about songs of praise. However, worship can be anything that honors and shows reverence to God. Worship can look like seeing God’s hand in creation and responding with awe and gratitude, spending time with God in prayer, or trusting God with an uncertain circumstance. Worship plays a significant role in spiritual warfare. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of…

The Greatest is Love
This year’s theme for our family weekend’s children’s program was the Armor of God from Ephesians 6. Throughout five sessions, our kids learned about the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. I led the younger class (ages 4-7) and as it turns out, the fundamentals of truth, faith, and salvation are a little too deep for that group. As the weekend went on, the priority…
Consistent Obedience and Perseverance
Auntie Mae-Tuin recently shared about her journey of increasing her faith as she served in her calling to missions close to home (an amazing message, you can listen to it here). Her message was so nostalgic for me because much of what she shared about were huge parts of my childhood; whether it was choosing to serve in and run our children’s ministry at the beginning (before it was called Kingdom Kids) or opening her and Uncle Dave’s home once…
Increase Our Faith: Inadequacy
So you’ve spent some time with the Lord and what you sensed God calling you towards is something you have no skill or experience in. Like at all. Congratulations! You wouldn’t be the first. Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” Exodus 4:10 Moses was standing in front of a burning-not-burning-up bush, which God…
Effort Isn’t Wasted
We had a Kingdom Kids themed Intercession a few Sundays ago, and as we were praying together a phrase that came up was this: “Effort is not wasted”. There is a lot of effort invested in Kingdom Kids; our shepherds put a lot of time, energy, and love into our kids! Though they play an enormous part in planting seeds in the next generation, it doesn’t always feel that way every Sunday. Somedays (and depending on the classroom, most days)…
Increase Our Faith: Conviction
When my family and I were travelling in Asia last month, one of the places we stayed at smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. The smell was stronger in some places than others and seemed to come out of the vents, but we ignored it as we started to organize our things and settle into the room. The longer we stayed in the room the less noticeable the smell was, but in one spot it was so strong that we ended…
Wildfire Sunday
This past Sunday, we got to see Wildfire, our youth group, run our Sunday service, doing everything from leading worship to Holy Communion to sharing announcements and running media and ushering. They put in effort to practice and prepare, and they did an amazing job! In particular, it was really incredible to see how far the worship team has come since the beginning, when Andrew first started leading Wildfire with Sam Lai. Back then, Andrew encouraged that generation of Wildfire…
