I was listening to a few of our Family Weekend recordings this week, which you can access through the links below:
Stephen Hawkins – Session 1: Where is Your Faith
Stephen Hawkins – Session 2: Fighting for Your Faith
Stephen Hawkins – Session 3: Live by Faith
Stephen Hawkins – Session 4: From Fear to Faith
Stephen Hawkins – Session 5: People of Faith
As I was listening to Session 1: Where is Your Faith? the thing that stood out to me was that despite what Stephen Hawkins experienced, he dared to hope for more. Through the stories he shared of his own family, the communities and people that he had worked with, and the challenges that he faced–because he had hope that God had something more, he prayed for more and put his faith in God, even when faced with what seemed impossible.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
Stephen Hawkins dared to hope for more than what he could see, and thus prayed and put his faith in God. It’s hard to ask for more when “more” seems impossible–who would ask for something they don’t think can be given? Hoping for more can be scary–what if we’re disappointed? No matter what we face, in this season of Increasing Our Faith, I sense God saying, “Ask for more.”
What area or situation in your life has God asked you to Increase Your Faith in? Where is he encouraging you to ask for more, hope for more, and have faith and confidence that He will provide?
