Ways to Remember
In Joshua 22; the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar by the Jordan River. This was right after the promised land had been divided up between the tribes of the Israelites and they were settling in the land. Readers could assume, like the Israelites did, that those tribes had forgotten the nation’s covenant with God, even after all that they had gone through in their journey through the desert. What the Israelite leaders found out…
Loved to Love
I was recently reminded of two people who had a tremendous impact on my life. One was a family friend and the other was my bible study children’s program teacher. The family friend had created a safe space that brought about healing during a hard time in my life and my bible study children’s leader was one of the people God used to convict me to give my life to Christ. The thing that stands out to me is that…
Daniel Prayed Anyway
Recently, in my bible study, we have been reading the book of Daniel. One of the things that stood out this week was from Daniel 6; Daniel in the Lions’ Den. In this part of the book, Daniel is around 80 years old and is in the service of Darius the Mede, King of Babylon. In this well-known bible story, Daniel has been appointed as one of three administrators to oversee the kingdom, but because of how Daniel presented himself…
The Word Must Go Out
I lost my Bible. The last time I remember seeing that book was when I brought it to a bible study. I didn’t need to bring it, because everything was digitalized, but I felt compelled to pack it anyway. I didn’t end up using it, but couldn’t find it the next day and panicked. I didn’t know my Bible meant that much to me, but it was almost 10 years old and had notes and scribbles that couldn’t be replaced;…
Seek First the Kingdom
LifeSpring is blessed to do what it has been called to be, a blessing. We have heard from many missionaries who work all over the world and have seen the impact that LifeSpring has made globally. There are so many things that allow LifeSpring to do the things that it has, but we are also changing. As our refugee sponsorships progress, as the next generation of leaders start to grow up, as we continue to open our arms and hearts…
Making Room
We have a lot of things to worry about as we enter this season. As a new school year starts up, some of us are caught up in all of the scheduling, the extra curriculars, and the after-school activities. For others, it could be job security, health or finances that take over our thoughts. When our minds are constantly running from one thing to another, we need to make room for God. We can make room for God by blocking…
Obedience, Sacrifice, and Fruitfulness
When we thing about fruitfulness, we think first about fruit. That fruit can look like actual fruit, for example; tomatoes, peppers, or zucchini. It can look like getting a raise, buying a new home or property, or having a baby! But there is another side to fruitfulness, which requires obedience and sacrifice. One of the common ways people practice obedience and sacrifice in the church is by tithing. Tithing is giving 10% of what you make, the first fruits…
The Green
It was so great to hang out with the church family over the past weekend. What I noticed during the Family Weekend is that there are a lot of green spaces in LifeSpring. Whether I noticed it first hand, or it was brought up by others, I could see how we have created spaces that are green, especially for our kids. I had a conversation with someone who pointed out that it was very rare to see so many generations…
Look for the Blue
There is a story about a professor who asked his students to look for the yellow things around his classroom. He then asked them to close their eyes and instead, name the blue things in the room. His students were annoyed and naturally found this difficult to do. Sometimes it is challenging for us to see the things that God is doing and the ways He is moving, because we can look at a situation and only see the yellow.…
So Much More
I’m not old, just naïve, but over this past year I have both seen and experienced God in so many ways that when the question of more came up during the Wildfire Retreat, I thought, “there’s more?” It felt greedy to even want more when I had already been given so much, but as I hesitated to raise my hand the Lord showed me a picture of the universe. A large starscape littered with planets and celestial bodies, with the…
A Redeemed King
Many of the kings in the bible ended their reign how they started it; if they did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, the Lord blessed them and gave them peace. And if they did evil and went against God, their reign tended to be short and ended in defeat. Though there are exceptions to each generalization, one story that stands out between both is the story of Manasseh, King of Judah. Manasseh came into power at…
Fruitfulness in Failure
When we think of fruitfulness, we do not think about failure. When Dr. Siang Yang taught during his training last Saturday, he highlighted the three main ways to be fruitful. To be fruitful there must be evidence of the fruit of the Spirit (agape, God-centered love); which is focused on being more like Christ, the salvation of souls, and social action and justice that is not selfish or self-centered. He also mentioned that the manifestation of fruitfulness doesn’t necessarily mean…
