Wildfire Sunday
This past Sunday, we got to see Wildfire, our youth group, run our Sunday service, doing everything from leading worship to Holy Communion to sharing announcements and running media and ushering. They put in effort to practice and prepare, and they did an amazing job! In particular, it was really incredible to see how far the worship team has come since the beginning, when Andrew first started leading Wildfire with Sam Lai. Back then, Andrew encouraged that generation of Wildfire…
Making Our Faith Our Own: From the Field to the Battlefield
When we pray for God to “Increase Our Faith”, we often focus on the word increase. But God wanted me to look at the word OUR. There is a massive difference between a borrowed faith and a personal faith. A borrowed faith is when you believe because your parents do or because you grew up in a certain church. But a personal faith is forged when you start asking the hard questions, trying new things, and sharing what you believe.…
Beer Lahai Roi
I’ve been thinking of Hagar lately. For those who don’t know, Hagar was Abraham’s wife Sarah’s slave, with whom Abraham had a son named Ishmael. Hagar and Sarah had a contentious relationship because of that, which led a pregnant Hagar to run away from Sarah. Then, the angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert, and the angel told Sarah to go back to Hagar and submit to her. The angel also declared that they would…
Easter People in a Good Friday World
Dear LifeSpring Family, This past Sunday, I had the privilege of leading Holy Communion during our service. I love celebrating Holy Communion because it reminds me of the hope and joy that awaits me. Pastor Gabe reminded us in his Easter Service message of the importance of blood in our lives. Life is in the blood both physically and spiritually. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of…
Increase Our Faith – Step by Step
We had an amazing privilege to listen to my wonderful wife, Karyne, speak and share how God has been working in her own life. It was very special to me because Karyne was sharing the moments in her life that I had a front row seat to, in the moment I saw with her the challenge and the obstacles in her way. Yet hearing how God was working inside of her, I praised the Lord. I don’t always get to…
Let It Be Jesus
In the 1970’s, the Beatles released an iconic and quite memorable song called “Let It Be.” If you were to hear it, you’d probably recognize it. It’s just that popular! One of the Beatles had written the song about his mother and the message was simple enough: stop struggling against circumstances and just let it be. For me, a different song has been coming to mind this week. “Let It Be Jesus” is also a simple song with a simple…
Same God
Recently, I was reminded that the characteristics we attribute to God hold true in all seasons, comfortable ones and challenging ones. With so many things happening in our world today, globally and personally, God remains unchanged and is still worthy of our worship. It’s easy to forget the nature of who God is or think He is far, but challenge does not mean the absence of God. Part of the process of Increasing Our Faith is trusting that God is…
Increase Our Faith – Easter (Blood)
Easter is a holy season for the Christian faith, but the reality is most of us do not really know why. The first thing my children asked when preparing for church was, “Will there be an Easter egg hunt?” Just like children, we can sometimes focus on everything that is happening around us and forget the real power and reason of Resurrection Sunday. Most of us know that Jesus died for our sins, but we are unsure of why it…
Every Morning
Lately, I’ve been listening to a song called “Every Morning” by the band Lost & Found. It’s about how God’s mercies are new every morning, and the chorus is based off Lamentations 3:22 – 23: “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” This is a very well known verse in the church that inspired numerous hymns and worship music. However, the context of this…
Jehovah Nissi
In March I had the opportunity to assist in the Kingdom Kids Nissi class. For those of you who don’t know, Nissi is Grades 1-2 class in Kingdom Kids. On this particular day, I got to assist Wes alongside Ben as he taught the class. If you ever want to see a man in his element or as Gabe might say “a fish in water” you should see Wes teach that class. It was like watching curling in the 2026…
Increase Our Faith – New Wineskin
What an amazing way to close Grandparents’ Month by listening to our one and only Patricia Koh. Auntie Pat has walked on her faith journey and has seen God’s faithfulness in the good times and bad. She encourages us to press in and to not hold back. Pressing in today means new wineskin for tomorrow. As Auntie Pat was sharing about LifeSpring’s journey of encountering the Holy Spirit, I couldn’t help but remember a funny Malaysian guy named Joe Chong.…
Rooted and Grounded
Many years ago, Theresa and I had an opportunity to see the Giant Sequoia trees in Yosemite Park. The fact that “giant” is included in the name is no joke! Many of these trees are hundreds of feet tall, and some are so thick they’ve carved a tunnel through the trunk so cars can drive right through. During Pastor Alvin’s message on Sunday, he mentioned these giant redwoods. Something interesting he said is that while these trees are massive, they actually have a surprisingly…
