Auntie Mae-Tuin recently shared about her journey of increasing her faith as she served in her calling to missions close to home (an amazing message, you can listen to it here). Her message was so nostalgic for me because much of what she shared about were huge parts of my childhood; whether it was choosing to serve in and run our children’s ministry at the beginning (before it was called Kingdom Kids) or opening her and Uncle Dave’s home once a month for playdates.
One of the things that stood out to me from her message was this; at every step of the way she listened to hear God’s voice and direction and no matter what it was, she obeyed. And whatever step Auntie Mae-Tuin and Uncle Dave chose to take, God provided them with enough to complete it (even just barely). Their consistent obedience and perseverance through the hard stuff have allowed their ministry to grow in the work that they do in Kingdom Kids and from their home. God trusted Auntie Mae-Tuin and Uncle Dave with a little and now He trusts them with a lot. Auntie Mae-Tuin and Uncle Dave continue to invest and pour into the next generation, encouraging and inspiring many as they serve.
Sometimes when we sense God calling us in a certain direction, we wait to see the whole picture, because we want to know what we’re signing up for. However, it doesn’t always work that way and like Auntie Mae-Tuin and Uncle Dave, we might only know the next step. God knows our limits; we will not be given much more than we can handle or be suddenly dropped in the deep end. Whatever God entrusts us with, when He knows that He can trust us with a little, He will slowly trust us with more. Slowly.
Who knows what could happen or what God could do. Auntie Mae-Tuin and Uncle Dave probably did not know the impact their actions would have when they first started, but their consistent obedience and perseverance show in our young adults and children today. Whatever God has put on your heart, whatever the call is, whatever obedience looks like, whatever it means for you to persevere: you never know what God can do with your yes. Has God been trying to get your attention recently? What is one step you can take in the direction He is calling you towards?
