Holy of Holies

My family and I had the privilege of going to Singapore & Malaysia with the grandparents, and we were able to see our family’s history and how they lived. I saw Nancy’s (my mother-in-law’s) family home and the treacherous journey she would take everyday to get to school. It was a little town, which meant that 50 years ago it was a little village. I asked one of the uncles what they did for fun as kids, and he told…

Record and Remember

I was recently updating my resume and was struck by now much I’ve changed and grown in the last few years. My resume was a snapshot and a great reminder of where I was 3-4 years ago while in the process of graduating highschool and being very uncertain about my direction in life. There are days where I don’t feel like I’m growing at all, and sometimes it helps me to take a look back in hindsight to remember how…

Old Challenge, New Perspective

As we enter into the first weeks of January, I hope this new year has been off to a good start for you. For many people, the new year feels like a natural time to start things fresh and maybe try something new. Of course, that’s partly because December is a great time to let ourselves go and enjoy, and I hope you had a chance to do that as well over the Christmas season! But this is the time…

Increase Our Faith: More Wonder, Less Information

As we enter into this new season of Increasing Our Faith, the Lord highlighted two things for us this year. One was what we don’t need and the other was what we do need this year. What we don’t need for this year is more information. Everything that we need to increase our faith this year will come from the Lord. Our job is not to gather more information but rather to step out in faith on what the Lord…

Happy, Healthy and Hopeful New Year!

Dear LifeSpring Family, Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and hopeful 2026! Dorothy and I recently finished our One Year Chronological Bible reading plan. As we searched for a new plan, we came across “The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel, Classic Version 2026.” On the first day, Nicky Gumbel discusses the common New Year’s resolutions many of us make and often struggle to maintain. As children of our heavenly Father, we are reminded that through our Lord Jesus Christ,…

The Little Things

It’s getting to everyone’s favorite time of the year again, January; the month where we revisit everything that happened over the past year and set new goals while recovering from Christmas and New Year festivities. This is also the time that our church does a month-long fast to pray for guidance and direction for the next year. As I was thinking about this coming period of fasting, I realized that no matter what I end up choosing to fast, big…

Fruitfulness 2025 Year in Review

December is always a good time to look back on how the past year has been for us. For those who journal (and I would highly recommend it!), it’s a good time to flip back and review the things that God had done through the highlights and lowlights of 2025. At LifeSpring, we use the last Sunday of the year to look back at some of the events of the year in a spirit of gratitude.  Our theme for 2025 was fruitfulness.…

Seek His Presence

This Christmas has been a strange one for me because throughout it, I’ve felt pretty far from God. In a time where the focus is on getting through exams, Christmas activities, and celebrating the birth of Jesus, I haven’t prioritized my relationship with God and have felt pretty distant from God. As I try to get back to spending more time with God, one of the Bible passages that’s been speaking to me is Exodus 33:12-17: Then Moses said to…

Giving Love of God

From our LifeSpring family to yours, we want to wish you a very merry Christmas! For those who were able to join us on Sunday, it was great to be together with family and friends to celebrate. Thank you to everyone for bringing food and helping to serve and clean up, and especially to our hospitality team for providing the main courses. Special shout out to our kids and shepherds for putting on an amazing presentation, and for all the…

Presence in the Present

Earlier last week, I felt prompted to pause and read my bible. My gut response was to reluctantly put down what I was holding and pick up my bible, which was close by. There’s a corner in my home with bean bags, pillows, and a blanket where I usually read my bible and do listening prayer, but today I avoided it because sometimes I’m there for an hour. I didn’t have an hour. Today was a flip-to-some-random-page-skim-it-and-pray-something-relevant sort of day.…

A Safe Space

As I was reflecting on my Greece trip, one of the things that God brought to my mind was the importance of creating a safe space.  Near the end of the trip, as we were going through the airport, I was stopped a couple times before we had gotten to the security point where I was stopped again and asked, “Where are you from?” This was unusual as normally I just get stopped at security. To be honest with you,…

Small but Mighty in the Lord

Last Sunday, we had a chance to hear from Pat Koh, who alongside Alvin served as pastors of LifeSpring for many fruitful years. One thing I always love about Pat’s preaching is the way she is able to bring together teaching from Scripture with her understanding of where LifeSpring is at in its journey as a church. The theme of Pat’s message was what it means for us to be “small but mighty in the Lord,” like Gideon in Judges 6-8.…
