Finding Peace Within Ourselves
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Last week, my life group met for discipleship where we were covered the topic of emotional wholeness and healing. One point in particular stuck out to many of us about this topic, and it had to do with…
Flowing Out as a Life Spring
Last Sunday, I had the chance to do a missions update about some of the organizations we’re supporting through our COVID-19 and missions budgets. OM works with the refugee community in Greece providing food, masks, carpets, and care packages for those who have had to flee their home countries. YWAM is working in Mumbai among the homeless and slum communities, providing ambulance services and groceries during the peak of the COVID crisis. Relentless Worship Ministry is providing food weekly to…
Listen Well. Obey Quickly.
A couple of weeks ago, while Gabe was speaking he said something that caught my attention and got me thinking. Gabe was talking about how he wants to make sure that he’s hearing God as well as he can, and being obedient to God as quickly as he can. This week at intercession, pastor Alvin was also sharing about the city-wide prayer meeting he’s organizing. He mentioned that a word that was given to him was, “listen well, obey quickly.”…
Be Refreshed, and Spring Up
John 7:37-38: On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus stood up and shouted,“All who are thirsty should come to me! All who believe in me should drink! As the scriptures said concerning me, Rivers of living water will flow out from within him.” I always love when Donna comes to speak to us! I’ve personally been blessed from all the words she shared with the Life-Spring family over the years, and last Sunday was…
Ready to Learn
Proverbs 9:7-107 Whoever instructs the cynic gets insulted;whoever corrects the wicked gets hurt.8 Don’t correct the impudent, or they will hate you;correct the wise, and they will love you.9 Teach the wise, and they will become wiser;inform the righteous, and their learning will increase.10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord;the knowledge of the holy one is understanding. Last year around this time, Ontario went into lockdown and all schools shut down. Our older daughter Sophia was…
For Everything a Season
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (excerpts from it):1There’s a season for everythingand a time for every matter under the heavens:2 a time for giving birth and a time for dying,a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted…4 a time for crying and a time for laughing,a time for mourning and a time for dancing. For the music fans out there, you may remember a song released in the 60s called “Turn, Turn, Turn.” Reading the verses from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8…
Peace in the Storm
Mark 4: 35-40Later that day, when evening came, Jesus said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” They left the crowd and took him in the boat just as he was. Other boats followed along.Gale-force winds arose, and waves crashed against the boat so that the boat was swamped. But Jesus was in the rear of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. They woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re drowning?”He…
Grow in the Grace of ____
At the end of last year, we worked on the memory verse 2 Peter 1:5-8 (“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith, goodness…”). Hopefully these are verses you’ve come to know and love, and even memorize. These verses are part of a bigger theme in 2 Peter, and the very last line of 2 Peter summarizes this theme well–“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).…
Faithful Through the Trials
Back in October, I had the chance to speak on the topic of dealing with suffering and trials. From what I can remember, things were pretty different back then both for the church and in the world. We were allowed to have up to a hundred people join us live on Sundays, so it was nice to gather for those who were able even though we had to social distance and mask. The summer had just ended, where we’d seen…
Life on Pause
During worship last Sunday, Jerry was MC’ing and shared a word he was hearing from God (see it here – https://youtu.be/bYWujpu54gw?t=1811). The word that Jerry got was that for many of us, we feel like our life is on “pause” because of the pandemic. We’ve had to pause important things whether it’s because of lockdown, our family situation, sickness, work life, job loss, etc. That word really spoke to me! I definitely feel like things in my life have been…
Intercession and Standing in the Gap
Back when I was in Overflow (youth ministry), we used to have intercession meetings on Friday nights in the church office. In some ways, having intercession meetings together was a good excuse for the young people to get together on a Friday night. But more importantly, intercession was a huge part of who we were as a youth group. Though we didn’t call it “listening prayer” at the time, that’s what we spent most of our time doing. We’d sit…
Fasting and Making Every Effort
Over the course of 2020, we did 3 memory verses together as a church (10 commandments, fruit of the Spirit, 2 Peter 1: 5-8). The pastoral team also did a few extra verses together. Here are some highlights: Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace… gentleness and self-control.2 Peter 1:5-8: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness… and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance.2 Timothy 1:7: For God…
