Come to me [Jesus], all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
As someone who is currently feeling weary and burdened, this passage is very relevant to me. In this season of life, I’ve found it hard to come to Jesus or do anything more than just pray into the void and hope He’s hearing me somewhere.
There are so many things in this passage that sound like more work and things to figure out. The command to learn from Jesus, find rest for our souls, take on His his yoke and burden sounds like a lot. There are so, so many things we can learn from Jesus that we will keep on learning and trying to learn for the rest of our lives. Putting on yokes also sounds like another thing we have to do and something that adds to the load.
However, it all starts with coming to Jesus and receiving His rest. Jesus is inviting us, with our weary, burdened, and tired selves, to rest in Him. Somehow, He will give us that rest we need and this easy and light burden to carry. We just have to come to Him and not face our challenges on our own. In the busyness of life, how can you come to Jesus and receive His rest?
