Breaking New Ground

Breaking New Ground

Last Sunday, we got to hear from both Andrew and Lyndon and Patrice from GAiN. We first met Lyndon back in 2021 when he served as a driver for a team of people cycling across Canada to raise money for water wells. Part of GAiN’s work is to reach out to remote communities in Africa that don’t have easy access to water, to digs wells for these communities along with sharing the gospel.

On Sunday, Lyndon and Patrice shared about their latest work in the Tchamba region in Togo. This part of Togo has several unreached people groups, meaning that the people there have never heard about Jesus. LifeSpring is partnering with GAiN to build a well in the Tchamba region, which opens the door for the gospel to be shared among people who have never heard it before.

It is such a blessing to partner with GAiN to break new ground like this. We have a chance to provide life giving water to a community in need, while also being a part of the gospel entering a community where it has never been heard.

All of this reminds me of what Andrew shared about on Sunday as well. Andrew recounted the story of Joshua and Caleb, who were part of a group of spies who were sent to find out more about the Promised Land of Canaan. Ten of the spies who went could only see the Promised Land with their natural eyes, seeing only the obstacles on their path. But Joshua and Caleb were able to see with the eyes of faith, to see what God was doing and saying.

We have a saying at LifeSpring, to “listen well and obey quickly.” A part of listening well is asking for God’s perspective, so that we can have eyes of faith to see things how God sees them. There is a way that seeing things from God’s perspective can bring about a sense of peace, as we recognize the sovereignty of God over our circumstances.

But learning to see our lives with the eyes of faith takes practice. Our tendency is to view our lives and our circumstances with our natural eyes, simply stating the obvious about what is in front of us. But as we practice things like listening prayer and hearing the voice of God, we can be more and more accustomed to seeing our lives with the eyes of faith. And this can bring us hope, as we’re able to see what God is doing. During this season of increasing our faith, may we all grow in seeing with such eyes of faith.
