Remember What God Said

Remember What God Said

Over the past few months, I’ve been noticing an interesting side effect of being busy – lapses in my short-term memory. There are times I would be halfway through a task before getting interrupted, and completely forget the task I was working on. I found myself forgetting the names of people I had met many times before, simply because there was so much on my mind that I couldn’t recall these simple things.

In our faith, I feel like we can also suffer from short-term memory loss. Back in August, Pat Koh mentioned an idea in one of her messages that has stuck with me. She was speaking about the importance of biblical covenants. Biblical covenants are based on God’s promises to us. When God makes a covenant with people, He also reminds them over and over again to remember God’s covenant and to not forget the Lord.

One of the greatest privileges that we have as Christians is the ability to hear God’s voice. You may be able to recall times when God has spoken to you. Maybe it was during a Sunday message, where one point related to your situation especially well. Maybe there was a worship song that you felt spoke directly into something you were facing. Maybe God brought a passage of scripture to mind that encouraged you or pointed you toward God.

Such words from God are powerful. But at times, we can suffer from memory loss. During moments of stress, doubt, and anxiety, we can easily forget what God spoke to us.

This is the reason why it is so important to remember what God said. The words of God spoken to us can help to provide an anchor during the storms and uncertainty of life. Such words can provide us with a fresh perspective when we are feeling overwhelmed. It brings to mind a line from our memory verse from Philippians 4:7,

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So what are some of the words that God had spoken to you? God will be faithful in bringing these words to life in a way that can speak peace into our most difficult circumstances.
