Let It Be Jesus

In the 1970’s, the Beatles released an iconic and quite memorable song called “Let It Be.” If you were to hear it, you’d probably recognize it. It’s just that popular! One of the Beatles had written the song about his mother and the message was simple enough: stop struggling against circumstances and just let it be.

For me, a different song has been coming to mind this week. “Let It Be Jesus” is also a simple song with a simple message. In every circumstance, let it be Jesus at the end of the day. Let all the things in our lives, good and bad, come back to Jesus. It’s a prayer that Jesus would be above all the things we face.

The chorus of the song includes a verse from Philippians 1:21. Paul here says,

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

This is such a deep idea with so much meaning. What does it mean, “To live is Christ?” One thing I can think of is what the song above says. That all of life would be directed and given to Jesus. In all things, that Christ would be above and in them. That Christ would live in us, and that we would live in Christ.

I heard a testimony from a friend once that related to this well. She was facing some difficulties at work, with many big and small problems coming up at once. She was definitely stressed and facing some things she had never faced before. Yet, she said, “Isn’t it great to know that I have a God that I can give all of these problems to?” In our trials and struggles, let it be Jesus.

I realize that some of the most challenging circumstances in our lives have no simple solution. There is often no one thing or one answer that will solve such problems. The most significant issues are often complicated and messy, to the point where we can’t even imagine what the solution could be. So much would need to change and so many things would need to happen, that any good resolution seems far off.

But it’s in these kinds of circumstances that God tells us to put our hope in Him. We’re reminded of God’s sovereignty. There is no situation or circumstance that is too big for God. God always provides a way back to Him, and a way to find Him. Paul says it so well in Romans 8:38-39.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is always a way forward with God. Hope put in Christ is put in the right place. Let it be Jesus!
