It’s getting to everyone’s favorite time of the year again, January; the month where we revisit everything that happened over the past year and set new goals while recovering from Christmas and New Year festivities. This is also the time that our church does a month-long fast to pray for guidance and direction for the next year.
As I was thinking about this coming period of fasting, I realized that no matter what I end up choosing to fast, big or small; God just wants my time. I am guilty of sacrificing something and then neglecting the thought of adding more of God into my life; pushing through a fast by sheer will and brute force. But whether what I fasted was related to food, habits, or routine; all of it was meant to be intentional with the ways I spend my time with God.
Something that stood out from what Ryan shared during his 2025 LifeSpring recap this past Sunday was that some of the fruit that came this year were from seeds planted years ago. Those fruits were not massive changes that happened overnight, but things God built up over time, in tiny, tiny increments.
Wherever you are in your journey with God, if you are considering joining us as we fast in January, whether you’ve done it before or have never fasted in your life; it doesn’t have to be big. God wants your time more than what you choose to give up, and it’s the littlest changes that can have the biggest impact.
I hope that you have had a fruitful 2025, here’s to 2026: Increase Our Faith!
