Increase Our Faith Requires Trust

Increase Our Faith Requires Trust

During Intercession this past Sunday, Andrew led us to seek the Lord and practice listening prayer. As he was detailing the outline of listening prayer, step 2 of this process stood out to me.

How to practice listening prayer:

Step 1: Ask God to give you direction in “_________ – anything you want”

Step 2: Tell Him that you are willing to do whatever He tells you – and mean it!

… (Steps 3-5 have been cut for concision, but you can find the full outline on our weekly email announcement rotation. If you have not signed up to receive our emails, you can do so through here.)

It’s been a while since I’ve revisited this template. Recently, much of my listening prayer revolves around me asking, “WHERE GOD?” Or, “WHY GOD?” Or, “HOW GOD?” I can’t remember the last time I’ve outright told God that I am willing to do whatever He tells me to do – and meant it!

Does God trust me? Am I someone who, God knows, will do whatever He tells me to do? There are times when I hear from the Lord, but can’t find the perfect words or way to share it that the moment passes. I don’t release the Word of the Lord lightly and worry that my ability to deliver it would affect the impact of what God is trying to say.

Part of Increase Our Faith revolves around trust. Faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26). Faith inspires action, and action requires trust. We might be at a point in our individual faith journeys where we know we can trust God, but can God trust us?

In 2022, LifeSpring committed to sow into seven water wells For His Name Sake, deliberately going into a deficit solely because that was where our leadership believed the Lord was leading us. They heard from the Lord and acted off what they had heard, trusting that God led them there for a reason. There were many unknowns, but it showed that LifeSpring could be trusted to release what God asked them to release.

This is an example in a corporate context, but what does that look like for an individual? For you personally? To be a person that God can trust, and together a people who will release His Word, we can release the Kingdom and change a world.

How can we be someone God can trust? What is God asking of you today?
