Dear LifeSpring Family,
As I was reading Andrew’s recent devotion titled “Purpose Over Potential“, I was reminded of Philippians 2:4-8 (ESV):
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Part of this passage, “[He] did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped” (verse 6) particularly resonated with me. Though our Lord Jesus Christ was fully God, He was clearly focused on His purpose over His potential, emptying himself to also become fully man. He did not consider himself too much to be obedient and die on the cross for us. It is truly humbling to consider how He never used His equality with God to overcome His enemies.
My prayer for myself is that I would allow the mind of Christ into my life, so that my first thought is to recognize God’s purpose in any situation, rather than focusing on my own status or ability. Would you join me on this transformational journey?
Grace upon grace,
Jerry
