Fathers, please hear this: We Love You, We are Proud of You, and You Are Good!
Being a father is an interesting journey. When I am became a father to Justus, I started to talk to my child like a Singapore aunty. “Wah – so cute lah”. And Karyne looked at me and just said “why are you speaking like that?” I had no idea. I saw my mom do that. When I see a small child I instinctively just roar at them. Why? I don’t know. I saw my dad do that.
When you become a father, the reality is, we have no idea what we are doing. We have an idea of what it “should” look like because of what media tells us. But that is simply a portrayal. The problem with what media and sometimes others tell us what a father should be, is that when the blind leads the blind – both end up in a ditch.
To be a good father – to be a good man – we need to go to the creator, Father God. Don’t ask your friends or watch Instagram on how to be a father – learn from others, yes, but more importantly, seek God. When we seek the Lord and He speaks into our lives, He begins to refine you to be Christ-like by the guidance of the Holy Spirit . He begins to transform you from the inside out.
To be a good father, it is not about how good you are at doing things – it is how aligned you are to seeking God, listening well, and obeying quickly.
When my brother and I were young fathers, I asked my dad if he had any advice on being a dad. He told us that raising us little monsters was simply by the grace of God. There is no such thing as a perfect father hear on earth, it is always the grace of God.
Fathers, we love you, we are proud of you, you are so good.
You may feel inadequate, you may have already made so many mistakes. It is not too late to begin to seek Him, Hear Him, and Obey Him. This is what God calls a “good” man.

You really really matter. You are part of God’s plan. Never forget that.
