We had the privilege of listening to my beautiful and amazing wife, Karyne. She taught lessons from her garden, but more importantly the things God has been showing and revealing to her as she nurtures growth. Take a listen and be blessed!
One thing that the Lord was highlighting to me as she spoke was her statement that “Everything Wants to Grow”. In God’s divine creation there is a God-given mandate to simply grow. We can find it for mankind in the directive to be fruitful and multiply.
It is an amazing principle that everything wants to grow. It is also such a joy to see growth. Personally, watching my children grow into young men and women has been such an amazing joy. We gave away our last set of diapers and it reminded me of the tremendous growth our family has gone through. But I was also reminded of my lawn and how even negative things (in my case, weeds in the garden) also desire to grow. In fact, it seems like weeds grow faster than fruit!
As Karyne cares for our small little vegetable garden, I am in charge of the larger grass area. It is my mission to destroy weeds and remove anything that will hinder or damage our property. I found out years ago when we lived in a farmhouse that weeds are extremely powerful. We had a vegetable plot at our farmhouse and weeds had taken over, I left it for the season and the weeds eventually grew to be more than 4 feet high! As I went to tackle the weeds, I realized it was too big and too many that I eventually gave up and had to pay for professionals to rid the garden of weeds.
Fast forward to today and I have learned from my mistake. Taking out weeds while they are small and few makes the job a lot easier. There would be no need for professionals with professional machines, simply some consistent effort to pull, spray, and destroy weeds as soon as they show themselves. And although my lawn is not perfect, it is not overrun.
Karyne reminded the church family that in our lives, we need to get rid of the weeds in our life. If we leave weeds today, they soon become too many and too powerful to overcome. The best course of action is to remove the weeds while they are small and get rid of them before its too late. Little things today become big things tomorrow.
Everything wants to grow, the good and the bad. Let us make every effort in being fruitful by removing the weeds in our lives. Be consistent and diligent, remove them while they are small. We won’t get it perfect, but we give our lives a chance of being fruitful and not overrun.
Take a moment to examine your life, as the Lord to simply search for anything that needs to be weeded. Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it is subtly. Maybe it is social media, maybe it is food, maybe it is television – whatever takes precedence over the King – I guarantee is a weed.
Karyne and I are fasting in the month of July and fast every 3 months. Join us for the rest of the month and pluck some of those pesky weeds in your own life.
