Prophetic Ministry
Our Prophetic Ministry was launched after many months of preparation…mainly praying and waiting upon the Lord so we can proceed, step by step, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit rather than moving ahead with the plans of men.
A team of 7 started the birthing process: 3 adults (Jeffrey Lee, Joseph Wee, Colin Aldridge), 3 young adults (Audrey Cheng, Ada Wong, Natalie Mak) and a pastor (Perry Soh), agreeing to meet on a regular basis to see this ministry come into being at Life-Spring.
Who should we approach to form the prophetic teams in the first place? How often should we offer this ministry in church? What protocol should we observe to ensure that everything is done in a fitting and orderly manner? How do we record the words released at each prophetic session – on paper or digital recording? When and where should the prophetic sessions be held? Should we have written guidelines to safe-guard the ministry against error and misunderstanding. All these, and other related questions were raised and addressed in consultation with the pastoral team and with their blessing.
Having made the decision to offer this ministry once a month, on the 3rd Sunday of each month, we officially launch the Prophetic Ministry on October 17, 2010. Early indications show that this is an effective tool to minister to people for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort just as we’re told in 1 Corinthians 14:3. For the receivers who have been blessed by the prophetic words released to them, we thank God for His timely work in their lives.
This is first feedback we received soon after we started the ministry:
“The prophetic words were extremely encouraging and they spoke into the current things in which I was journeying through. I think the most enlightening moment was when Philip Anthony proclaimed that I wasn't confused - such a seemingly simple statement that unravelled and unloaded a chunk of confusion and tail-spin of thoughts - a mentality of lies I fall into on a daily basis. God is GOOD and beyond optimism, and as much as that's a given fact/truth, I realize I don't actually live that out and walk in the faith that my mind and words profess. Anyway, I'm extremely thankful for what has taken place and what God is doing through the church. Prophetic ministry is such an uplifting experience and I believe anyone who is open in receiving it will indeed receive. THANK YOU and I can't stop marvelling at how amazing and effective the use of prophetic words are (it's relatively new to me). I've sought out counselling, psychologists, psychotherapists, and what not in the past and it just doesn't compare - the joy and extreme hope that is experienced and received through prophetic ministry. I'm so glad Life-Spring even offers this; I think it would do wonders in continuously shaping and growing God's church. What a gift!”
We trust that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us in developing this ministry with the aim of encouraging EVERYONE to learn to hear the voice of God. As Graham Cooke said in his book titled “Developing Your Prophetic Gifting” (page 167):
“Ironically, the purpose of a New Testament prophet is not primarily to prophecy! First, it is train people to hear the Lord for themselves. Second, it is to teach believers how to find and live in the will of God for themselves. Third, it is to instruct and train people in the gift of prophecy and to help churches establish the right framework and protocol for the gift. Fourth, it is to bring the word of the Lord either in preaching or inspired teaching.”
