As Life-Spring grows as a family and a church, it becomes clearer and clearer that missions is very much a part of the destiny God has for Life-Spring. 2010 was no exception – we saw God use our church family in amazing ways across Canada and even Africa.
The year began with 22 members of Life-Spring visiting Uganda to connect with pastors, minister to locals, and search out opportunities to bring relief and aid to the Ugandan people. Uganda has been battered by civil wars and political instability for many years. In January, we joined with several Native aboriginals from Vancouver and Alaska to visit our friends there. Together, the team was able to visit 5 cities in Uganda, spending much of our time in the villages that surround these cities. As our people went out, they ministered to pastors, brought food to the people, loved on the locals, and even helped to plant a farm in one village. As the blind saw, the sick healed, and people were delivered, many people expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the team. We are truly blessed in having the opportunity to go to Uganda and we recognize that this is part of a lasting friendship.
In June, we were also given the opportunity to visit Kenora. Kenora is a district in Northwestern Ontario that is home to many Native Canadians. As we met the people and spent time with the locals, God began to stir up a passion in our hearts for them. We were given the opportunity to hold services there and minister to the people, and we saw God use our gifts and abilities to touch many lives during our visit. We were as deeply impacted by the visit as the people there, and it is an experience we will not soon forget.
In July, we also had the opportunity to pay a visit to Wapipika. A few years ago, we ministered to a young boy named Nathan from Wapipika who was terminally ill and receiving treatment at Sick Kids hospital. We watched in awe as God fully healed this 6 year old boy, bringing him from death to life. This visit to Wapipika was an invitation by Nathan's reserve to his birthday celebration, and we were so blessed that they wanted our presence at his birthday. It was an amazing opportunity to celebrate life, and we are looking forward to one day returning for a visit.
In July, we had the opportunity to revisit the Native people of British Columbia. A team of 12 people from Life-Spring visited two reserves in the Northern part of British Columbia, the reserve at Glen Vowell and the reserve at Kispiox. This was in continuation of a relationship built with the people there that began over three years ago. Over these visits, it has been astounding to see the growth in the people there. When we first visited, none of the individuals we met knew anything about prayer ministry or the Holy Spirit. This past year however, many of these same young people were ministering to us as they prayed for us and laid hands on us. God continues to move powerfully with the Native people in BC and it is always a privilege for us to be able to spend time with them.
As we look forward to 2011, we are confident that God will continue to grow our hearts for the nations and continue to weave missions into the fabric of who we are as a church.
